Invitations Come Personally to People - We Have Here Three Responses - What Will Be Your Response?

in Jesus

Have you ever made an excuse having received an important and significant invitation? What excuses these people made when invited to this great feast. There is a massive difference between a reason and an excuse. These invited people just made excuses and they were invited to the most important feast to which any man could be invited.

The first man said, "I have just bought a field. I must go and see it. Sorry Jesus. My work comes before you. Sorry Jesus, my property and possessions come before you. There are so many demands upon my time."

If he had been a half-decent businessman he would have looked at the field before buying it!

Another man came, "I've bought five yoke of oxen. I must go and try them out. Please excuse me."
I have just bought a new car and must go for a run today, Jesus. I've purchased a new tractor and must go and see that it is all right. Sorry Jesus but you have caught me at a bad time and I cannot come.

The third appeared saying, "I have just been married. I cannot come to the feast."

Why? Could he not bring his wife along to the most important feast in the world? Couldn't she accompany him? Is all this not so very tragic?

Some had no intention of attending. This is nothing other than sin and can not be explained away in any other manner.

Yet, Jesus Christ in his love, invites and calls people, only to hear, "Jesus, anything can put me off. Anything can make me say 'No'."

Jesus is rejected again.

Jerusalem would not come under his protective care and compassionate wings, and now invited guests say, "I don't want your dinner. I will not accept your invitation. What you offer does not really interest me."

These are such paltry excuses. How hollow are people's excuses at times. We would rather do anything else other than you, Jesus.

The implication is, "Jesus, we might come if we had nothing else to do, and nowhere else to go, and no-one else to be with."

How would you have reacted if you had been one of these men? The risen and living and ascended Lord Jesus Christ continues to call and invite men and women. This might be His invitation to you just now as you read this article. How will you reply or have you already replied to your invitation?
